In contrast, in-place concrete walls are the most common foundation type used today, but CMUs remain permissible by residential codes and are often chosen for their economical benefits. They can also serve as fire protection barriers in multi-unit residential and commercial buildings, making them a popular choice for structural elements like elevator shafts.
